Hip, Hip, Hooray!

So, one of the first signs of fall is upon us....the start of the college football season.

{Insert picture of me inhaling deeply and smiling biggly}

Living here in the Deep South, I get to experience college football mania. People check dates of major games prior to setting wedding dates, for goodness sake. Or they include large screen TVs in their reception decor.

I'm not even kidding.

Going wild over football was something I just didn't grow up with in the Midwest.

And, OK.... I went to Iowa State. Not known for its stellar football team.

But I love those Cyclones anyway.

What I love most about college football Saturdays is the socializing.

Much like my time in college, come to think of it. Forget about the football win/loss record or class schedules or grades. I was all about who was going where when and with whom. And I was darn good at keeping up with it all.

As the weather gets cooler, we'll have late afternoon gatherings at our house. We'll fire up the grill, put some beer on ice and gather round the TV to see the week's big game.

For me, life doesn't get much better than cheering (and jeering) with friends, eating wonderful food and making memories together.

So, if I don't quite bleed cardinal and gold anymore, you can be assured that I'll be bleeding chili, Corona and a darn good spinach-artichoke dip.

Me too, Jill. Me too.

SaraMelene :

You and I would get along so well if we were neighbors. Especially if you pull for the Tar Heels.

Susan :

You are so cute! I love college football...I even told the kids the other day that we need to try and get to Tampa to see USF play this year. It's just a different feeling.

Hugs,

Susan

Sandra :

LOL you always make me laugh.

SFV: I do cheer for Iowa State, but their games are very rarely shown here in Georgia. My husband went to Oklahoma State so we love to watch them play. And we also have a joke around our house that we cheer for whoever is playing against Tennessee.

kari and kijsa :

Thank you for all your prayers and blessings!
Have a wonderful Labor Day,
kari & kijsa

Belle :

I loved your post! My husband(and many of his family members) went to Iowa State, and I went to Georgia, so I understand Football Saturday where you live. We actually watched the ISU game on Thursday, but didn't have the UGA game where we live.

kdwhorses :

Sounds like fun and fellowship!!

I'm not a football girl, but let me watch almost anything with horses! RFD-TV

Ang baylis :

You are making me hungry! Hey, how about doing a Fall Fashion post soon?
I need help! If we lived near each other we could talk fashion while having that chili, Corona and artichoke dip. Who needs football? Wanna share your recipes?
Love to you,
Angie xoxo

Lauren@Baseballs&Bows :

My hubby just turned on our first UT game of the season. Hooray for college football!

justabeachkat :

I'm not much into football, but I love football parties!

Hugs!

Mom on the Run :

Obviously you never ventured across the Missouri to that reddest of red states (Nebraska) because football is the only thing there! Actually, it's kind of funny because I know the south thinks they have the corner on football, but one of J1's sorority sister's mothers was telling me that she grew up in the South and now has kids at UGA and GT, but they lived in Omaha when they were in the Air Force and she swears she has NEVER seen anything like Nebraska football.

So I feel vindicated. Ha!

PS--I've been to Ames a million times for wrestling. Now that's a sport where the Cyclones rule.

Stacy at Exceedingly Mundane :

Football season is HUGE at our house! Our most active and fun time of year. We just tried out the spinach and artichoke dip from Sam's at our Labor Day party and it was pretty good. Yeah, one more thing I can buy instead of having to make :)
