...Not As I Do

9.01.2008

I don't normally like to talk politics. In person or on this blog.

But....I'm sorry, but I just have to say this.

Isn't it ironic some of the people protesting the war outside the Republican National Convention were carrying weapons?

Weapons!

To protest a war!

Ha!

Gracie Beth :

I thought it was ironic as well that some of the protesters got violent while they were protesting for peace.

Tammy :

I wasn't following this part of the news since I was glued to the weather channel this weekend, but that is pretty ironic, indeed!

(Hope to catch part of the convention this week, though!)

Belle (from Life of a...) :

That's the truth!!

CR :

Seriously!

Lauren :

No way! That is crazy!

justabeachkat :

That's NUTS!

Hugs!

Scarlet O'Kara :

I was just talking with my father about this same topic. Why is it that there are no "riots" outside of the DNC, but all "Hades" breaks loose outside of the RNC? They can be hypercritical, can’t they?

And while I am on this political rant, why is it such a problem that Sara Palin’s 17 year old daughter, who is a private citizen, is pregnant? Aren’t these the same people who thought that it was “wonderful” that Britney’s sister was pregnant? She is the Disney Channel Star and role model, not Bristol.

Kari :

Yes, it is totally absurd!

Thanks for recommending the Suzanne Somers book, I will definately check it out.

Scarlet- I agree about the Palin ordeal. Though I did hear Barack say that he would not be commenting on it since it's a personal matter. But his "people" sure are talking. I commented on some other blogs that I'm not crazy about Palin. She's OK but something about her just doesn't set right with me. Can't quite put my finger on it. I'll see how I feel after I hear her speak tonight.

Pink in a sea of blue :

It is ironic isn't it? I'm not hip on the Palin choice either. Shocked at the selection is more how I felt. Biden will probably blow her away when they debate.

Lauren@Baseballs&Bows :

I thought the same thing! How ironic that they were arrested for violence while protesting what they call violence!

BlondeMomBlog (Jamie) :

Thank you...I wholeheartedly agree!

Jillian :

Totally ironic!!!! I thought the same thing. Screaming and shouting and FIGHTING against fighting. Doesn't make sense.

Glad you wrote something about it. I think sometimes we are afraid to write about these issues in our blogs but they are really bothering me.

Susan :

Thanks so much for posting this and saying it.

Preppy Pink Crocodile :

I never understand why people use violence. Reminds me of how people protest abortion by shooting doctors. Seriously....violence does not solve anything people.

Scarlet- I think (though I certainly cannot speak for people I don't know personally) people felt it shocking and ironic because Palin is so vocal about being anti sex education on any level in schools. Personally I think it will be so sad if she really does get married at only 17!

Maggie :

Isn't it also ironic that the party that is running a women for VP has a poor record on women's issues--pay parity, health care, housing? Isn't it ironic that the party that loudly proclaims family values is a woman who only stayed home with her special needs newborn for three days? Hmmm.

Jillian, Inc :

"Maggie": If you're really serious about your feelings on political issues, you should start a blog of your own instead of hiding behind a link-less blog "profile", leaving comments with no live email address, and lurking from blog to blog leaving little snarky comments. You seem to have strong opinions about your political views, except they are watered down by the fact you won't just own them and write about them. You're basically giving little stabs anonomously, which makes you a blog bully. You can dish it out, but you won't put yourself in the game for fear you might have to take some rebuttal yourself. You also don't seem very well schooled in the issues you battle. For example, I assume you think Bill Clinton is a human rights and women's right champion (because he's a Democrat), except he preyed on young female interns and publicly humiliated his wife time after time with all of his affairs. If you want to talk pay disparity issues, I came from a home with a single mom who made less than $8000 per year and put three kids through college. I make well into six figures now and it's not because the government helped me. I paid my way through undergrad and grad school working three and four jobs at a time and paid off the $35,000 in student loans I had month after month until I was 35 years old. No one paid it for me. I did it on my own. I don't expect the government to pull me up by my boot straps or give me boots. There are many studies that show often times men and women are offered the same pay rate initially but men tend to barter more and ask for higher pay and more benefits. You're a typical liberal who thinks the government owes you something and thinks people who are "rich" should do more to help those who aren't. And, speaking of health care, you may not know that when Hillary Clinton's campaign started going into the red the first thing she stopped paying was health care benefits for her staff. So this makes her quite a hypocrite, don't you think? Stumping for health care for everyone while her staff has none because she didn't pay the bill. I'll be happy to discuss political issues with you, but not while you lurk in the shadows being a bully. If you come to my blog, wiggle like bait and throw me the hook, I'll bite.
