A Little Bit Country...and a Whole Lot Embarrassing

10.16.2008

One of the radio stations I have pre-set in my car plays only old timey country music. I think it's called "Country Legends" or something like that.

Every once in awhile I like to flip to it and hear Dolly, Waylon and Willie, or Hank Sr. croon some country tunes.

I realize my coolness factor isn't real high when I do this.

Thankfully, my two year old isn't very cognisant of the coolness factor. He still thinks his mama's got it goin' on.

Because he loved it when I rolled down all the windows in the car and sang every word to "CONVOY", the CB truckin' song from the 1970's.

And I won't even tell you about my bopping and clapping and other embarrassing "moves."

Scary...all the words came back to me like I'd sung it every day of my life.

Which I did in the summer of 1975, thank you.

Except then I was riding my purple bike with the pink and white basket on the front.

Cause we gotta little ol' convoy, rockin' through the night
Yeah we gotta little ol' convoy, ain't she a beautiful sight?
Come on an' join our convoy, ain't nothin' gonna git in our way
We're gonna roll this truckin' convoy, cross the USA
Convoy... Convoy...

(now try not to hum that song in your head for the rest of the day)
10-4, good buddy.
Over and out.

Roger that. What's your 20?

I'll admit to listening to our local country legends station in the car and through our satellite TV at home. It's comforting. And it brings back 8-track memories.
Don't be embarrassed, just turn it up a bit louder and drop some peanuts into your coke.

I KNEW I thought you were super cool! I listen to country all the time, but that's just who I am. I remember that song well...showing my age here, lol!

Hope all is well in your world!

Vader's Mom :

I LOVE THAT SONG!!!

Rock on!

Melissa @ Breath of Life :

Breaker-Breaker 1-9.

Oh my goodness...I had not thought about that song for YEARS! Now it will be on my mind all day.

My Papa was big into CB radios. Had friends all over North & South America. (A precursor to blogging perhaps?) I felt so special when he let me talk on it. My handle was "China Doll".

Good times...

Nadine :

Thanks...I'll try to keep that out of my head.

But I think you are cool - who doesn't like a little country?

Mom on the Run :

Do you remember that Old Home Bread commercial that CW McCall did?

"I'll have a side of fries, a chicken fried steak, and Old Home pie and a chocolate shake...." the trucker in the diner--I think the waitress was Mavis?

I think he did that commercial and then did Convoy and got to be a BIG DEAL.

Lauren@Baseballs&Bows :

Maybe you could get your country music friend to put you on her next album. :)

CR :

Love the new family picture!

Just Mom :

Just for you. ;-D

Belle (from Life of a...) :

Dionna :

Convoy is a cool song. It makes me smile.

That is too funny, Jill. Isn't it great how those old songs can come back in a heartbeat...kinda like a time warp or something. I bought a CD a while back from Target that was "Hits from the 70's" or something like that and was as pleased as I could be with myself that I remembered them all! WOW! I never was much of a country music fan, but I do love Dolly Parton!

Fun post...thanks!

Tammy :

Too cute, Jill...
This reminds me of a song I heard while going through the dollar tree with my six yr old..."Jackie Blue"...I don't remember most of the words, but the tune and main line is now ingrained in my head and I thought it had been lost out of there decades ago!

If you can, come over and help me wish my hubby a happy birthday!

Tina Leigh :

Between the vomiting and laughing....yes I am singing it too now thanks to you!! LOL
So you like Hee-Haw too dont-cha! I bought a cd of some of the episodes from Cracker Barrel last summer and my MIL got it.....haven't seen it again! HUM!

Just Me... :

Yep I listen to Country Legends too-

jeanetta :

OMGosh! Give me Loretta, Dolly, Willie and Waylon and the Boys any old day. Classic Country is the best! I sometimes feel like current country singers are pre-fab and just don't have the same feel as their predecessors. I currently have some great old country on my play list right now and can't help but getting up and singing into my hairbrush or what ever object is laying around. Pretending I have painted on wranglers tucked into my boots, a fringed shirt and cowgirl hat to boot.

Lauren :

I listen to country music. Not old country, but country nonetheless. I do get made fun of, but I don't care! :)
