When my kids are lounging on the sofa...
watching the wall-mounted plasma TV that can be swiveled every-which-way for a perfect viewing angle....
and I turn on the vacuum or make other noise (which I'm prone to do - I'm noisy like that)....
and they yell, "MOM, I CAN'T HEAR IT"!
I have to chuckle to myself as I reminisce about watching TV when I was their age.
Laying on the floor 'cause the big old hefty thing didn't move...
Choosing between three channels (maybe four if Public Broadcasting happened to come in that day)....
And when my mom turned on the blender or the vacuum...
Not only could I not hear the TV, I also couldn't see the TV...
'cause it would go all wonky and snowy and crackly.
Any of you remember that?
And, P.S...
I also walked a mile to school in every kind of weather, every day of the school year.
Including over the railroad tracks and up a big hill.
Now back to our regular programming.

I remember when we didn't even have TV. I would listen to programs on the radio!!! My parents got TV when I was in high school and it was black & white. We've come a long way, baby.

Ok I am turning 40 soon so we always had a tv and growing up we even had cable! but being a latchkey kid, I walked everywhere, and sometimes on the weekend, living on the beach walked barefoot everywhere, the beach to the road, across the street to the street vendor to buy $1.00 food that who knows if it was safe to eat, then right back to the ocean to surf...and then I'd go home and hold my little sister on my lap while we rode to someone's house.
Lil Sis got in a whole world of trouble for giving my father lip while he was vacuuming(with a pink dyson at that) because she turned the TV up as loud as she could and pitched a fit...she had to go to her room.
LOL that is too funny! I forgot all of that but you are sooo right. We had the big TV in the wood console thing....my mom had pictures of us on top of it.
It is so good to have you back! I have been a slacker on blogging this past winter/spring season too! Life just seems to get in the way and we have to prioritize. I am so glad you are back, I look forward to reading your post each day.
Have a blessed weekend.
:)

Ha! They have no idea. And yes, I remember our big wonky tv! But we thought it was great as long as our favorite shows came on.
Jill, I adore your new stair runner! Gorg-gus! Welcome back.
Holy shit...I only had three channels (if the weather was good) growing up and my tv didn't even have a remote. Talk about rough! I'm a total tv junkie now too! My son doesn't know what rough is!
Happy Mother's Day, Jillian.
Getting older....every day!
Can't keep up with the kid's technology...yikes!
This is off topic but I got your comment about the Edwards interview and your "take" was almost identical to mine and was almost exactly what I wrote over at Preppy Crocodile's post about the interview!
Happy Mother's Day!
Ahh yes. I was wearing my tretorns and my gloria vanderbilt jeans watching who's the boss!
I do remember that. At least now a days you can put captions on and at least read the words if you can't hear them.
Have a Great Mother's Day.
Those were the good ole days, you know, when the president came on, you had NO OTHER CHOICE but to watch. Kids have it so easy these days!
haha, i so remeber the snowy television when someone vacuumed. Funny thing is we just got rid of our hand me down tv from my parents that they got ions (atleast the early 80's) ago. It has no remote so every time you wanted to change the channel you had to get up and turn the dial and the on/off switch was one you had to pull/push. Thank goodness technology has improved, but i don't get my exercise quite as easily when i watch tv now.
