Our New Kitchen

6.22.2007

Y'all, I just can't tell you how thrilled we are with our new kitchen and keeping room. I haven't done a lot of projects like this so it was a case of hoping everything we chose over the course of several months would all come together.

This is how the kitchen looked when we viewed the house:

This is the kitchen last fall after we'd done a little upgrading with new

appliances, granite counter tops and tile backsplash.

And here it is today.

The new keeping room, which was behind me as I took this photo, is just walls, windows and a floor right now.

We need to choose a paint color for the walls, paint all the trim and buy furniture. I'll show that as soon as it's done. It will be a great summer project for me.

Thanks to all of you for going on the 8+ week journey from screened porch to this. I really had fun writing about the progress each week. Your words of encouragement mean a lot.

How gorgeous! I know it's worth the wait, but oh my word. The process is enough to bring you to your knees, isn't it?

Gorgeous! I KNOW how much work and planning went into a project like this. Isn't it worth all the worry and delay though? It really is beautiful and you should be proud of yourself.

Wow Jill! That's beautiful!!!
We just went through the process of updating out house with new cupboards, etc. So...I know what a project that is.
However, putting all of my stuff in my brand new kitchen was 100 times more fun than taking it out of the old kitchen.

Anna :

Wow! What a makeover! Looks fabulous!

(PS--I think we have the same kitchen sink faucet!)

Leah in Iowa :

Everything is so pretty, Jill! I love the things you picked out! It all looks so nice together. You've got great taste for an Iowa girl! (Now who would be able to get away with THAT comment besides another Iowa girl??) =) Ya dun gud.

It's to die for! I want new cabinets in my kitchen but we can't afford them. Mine will have to be repurposed for now! I love the color scheme in yours and I just know your keeping room will be awesome!

Lori :

I love the cabinets! They are beautiful. Have fun with the keeping room project this summer.

Wow...what a difference. I love the look and am a bit jealous, I'll admit.

Thanks for sharing.

Oh wow...beautiful kitchen!
I even like the second picture...but in the final stage, the kitchen looks so much brighter and airy.
Wonderful job!
(Can you come do mine now?) ;)

Rhoda @ Southern Hospitality :

WOW, Jill! I know you are thrilled...it turned out fantastic. I love those glazed cabinets. Had that in my old house (did them myself) and it's such a great look. I'd say you picked out perfect things for that new kitchen.

BlondeMomBlog (Jamie) :

I am hogging the comments but just had to say I LOVE your kitchen! Just gorgeous!

OK...I'm a tad jealous, too! ;)

Our house was built in 1968 and the kitchen has, thankfully, been updated a bit but it has a lot of untapped potential. I keep telling myself that. Ha ha.

Trudi :

Did you paint the cabinets or purchase new? They look great!
Could you please email me and let me know.

Angi :

I want to know the same thing as trudy - did you paint the cabinets or purchase new? We are about to redo our kitchen. Hubby wants to paint, I want new

Jillian, Inc :

For a couple of you who have asked, we refaced our kitchen cabinets. It's much cheaper than getting new, and not that much more than painting the existing. Refacing enabled us to have a more updated door style, and hidden door hinges and the price included new hardware. It turned out to look even better than I'd hoped and feel it was a really good choice.
