Burning Issues

9.21.2009

So my mom just emailed me... I don't burn candles any more because you wouldn't believe all the soot they give off in your house.

Great.

Not only am I worried sick that all this rain is going to cause a tree to fall on our house in the middle of the night...

...now I have home pollution factors to stress about.

And my favorite black lounge pants are M.I.A.

*sigh*

yeah they leave lots of soot but i want to say there are some candles out there that give off a white/clear smoke instead of black. i think there is!

i don't care- i love my candles.

"Cookie" :

I've always heard that about candles but wondered if it was really true. Since my little one became mobile I pretty much did away with them. :) And I totally feel you on the whole rain soaked tree deal! Hoping for some clear skies.

Tonja :

Well, if the tree that falls on your house, due to all the rain, causes the electricity to go out...you will have the candles so you can see to find your black pants!

Unknown :

Hope you're staying safe down there! And I think if you use soy candles with a lead-free wick you'll be ok.

Rhoda @ Southern Hospitality :

Jill, what a terrible story about your traffic incident. The way he treated you was horrendous. Glad you got it over and behind you. Amazing how things can get out of hand like that & ridiculous! And your summations are SO true.

kmm0305 :

Yup, I actually stopped burning them after we moved out of an apartment almost 10 years ago. The landlord kindly pointed out where they would have to re-paint due to soot. Oops. Soy candles are supposed to be better, but I still burn them very occasionally.

Yesterday I picked up some fall scented Wallflowers at Bath & Body Works. Vanilla Caramel and Autumn Apple. (Buy one get one free!) My house smells delish! FYI: don't turn them sideways in your outlets even though you can--I had oil drip on our walls. :(

CRICKET :

Aren;t some things worth a little mes...I threw away all my candles when we moved but today I think I need to buy one to cheer me up!

mer@lifeat7000feet :

I've heard soy candles burn clean. But never tried any so maybe that's just a rumor...

I suppose I could google it.

Miss Jody :

I have to agree with Mom.
I don't/won't burn/waste money on candles anymore...I'm PARANOID about a fire...and when I did have a candle burning..not on purpose, I'd forget about it! I hear and see too many horror stories.
I use the Scentsy warmers. The wax melts them with a lightbulb and your house smells wonderful!! Ummmm....
I use to sell this products..but I got to busy and I'm not a salesperson at all!!!!

clemsongirlandthecoach :

Let's talk about the pants. They are GAP, yes?? Walk me through this...

Sandy McTier Designs :

Hope you are doing okay up there with all that rain - we've not had as much down here but the target parking lot and restaurants surrounding we're being pumped this a.m. because of all the rain. Crazy - lakes dry as a bone last year and overflowing this year!
Take care!
Sandy

Katy :

Darn it all.
Sure hope you find your fave pants.

Tell your mom to check out my Scentsy site...she can have the smell of candles w/out the yuck in the air or on the walls.
www.scentsy.com/22701
have her look around and see if she likes it

Also, I'm doing a giveaway for a $20 credit on my Scentsy site. It's the #200 giveaway, come check it out.
{I feel so cheap telling you about something I sell, but just thought your mom might be interested. Ok}

Nadine :

I'm not a big fan of the rain but I do love to burn candles - soot and all.

The Pink Chick :

Thank you so much for your comment and e-mail! I sent you an e-mail back, but my yahoo account is acting up. Please let me know if you didn't get my e-mail! I'm not sure why my e-mail account is choosing to rebel! :)

Jillian's Bella Rosa Antiques :

I know what you mean about the tree falling worry. We live in the woods and our second year here six came down...but they were at the bottom of the hill we live on. Luckily!

I keep hearing that about candles but burn them once in awhile anyway! Too many thing are going to "do us in," why worry?

LOL. I like Tonja's answer.

Justabeachkat :

Oh no, I lost my favorite lounge pants a few years ago after cleaning out my closet and giving a lot of things to my cleaning lady. Did I call and ask if my pants were in the bag? Oh yes ma'am I did. Did I ask for them back? You better believe it!
I hope you find yours.

Thanks so much for the birthday wishes and your visits, even when I'm MIA which has been quite often lately. I can't seem to stay organizied, but that's okay...my life is full, right?

Hugs!
Kat

Angela Baylis :

I SO hope you find those pant! I have a friend who prays to Saint Anthony for lost items. I'll ask her to pray... I will too! My friend and I were talking about how much fun it was to check out those outfits you put together last year. We agreed that it's time you do another one?
Love,
Angie xoxo

p.s. The soot is totally worth it in my book! :)

Tonja :

love the wood wick candles...burning one right now. They sound good too@

Jules :

I cannot go without my Yankee and Woodwick candles. I've never heard of them leaving soot before, but I guess it makes sense.
